Travel Insurance Preparations
Preparing for a holiday can be every bit as stressful as it is exciting, with so many little things to do and remember before you finally take off. One of those 'little' things is your travel insurance; we know how important it is and that we dare not travel without it so here's a Do's and Dont's list to help you.
DO cover yourself from the day you leave the UK, to the day to return home.
DO purchase travel insurance cover as soon as you have booked your holiday. This offers protection against airlines going out of business or cancellations.
DO get an insurance quote for The USA, Canada and the Caribbean before you book your trip. Travel insurance cover to these destinations can be more costly, due to the high cost of healthcare in these countries.
DO get the appropriate cover if you plan to incorporate activities such as skiing or mountain climbing into your holidays. If you have an accident on holiday during your activities, you need to know that the right level of cover is in place
DO check you have entered your travel dates correctly. Check and double check before you press that 'Enter' button!
DON'T forget to purchase travel insurance! Once you take off, it's too late to get it!
DON'T be tempted to omit vital information in the hope of saving money, when you do a medical screening. In order to validate your policy, its very important to declare ALL your medical conditions.
DON'T underestimate the importance of travel insurance, especially if you have a pre-existing medical condition. Peace of mind is priceless.
DON'T forget to inform your home insurer if you're planning to be away for more than 30 consecutive days. Your cover may be restricted or even excluded so if in doubt, get in touch with your insurer.
DON'T forget your EHIC Card if you are travelling to another EU Country. This gives you access to local healthcare free of charge or at a reduced cost, should you need it.
